Covid-19: Nepal witnesses 2,004 new cases and 16 deaths; positivity rate at 13.67 percent

Kathmandu: Nepal on Thursday recorded 2,004 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 1,619 were diagnosed with the virus in PCR tests while 385 were confirmed positive in the test undertaken through the antigen method. Samples of 10,658 people were tested through the PCR method while 3,992 samples were tested adopting the antigen method. The positivity rate stood at 13.67 percent.

The number of active cases of coronavirus across the country is 33,946. Out of them, 31,619 are in home isolation and 2,327 undergoing treatment at institutional isolation. A total of 544 are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit while 166 Covid-19 patients are under ventilator support, the Health Ministry said, adding 302 are currently quarantined.

A total of 1,846 people got discharged during the last 24 hours, the Ministry added.

According to the Ministry, 16 people lost their lives to coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. As of today, coronavirus-related deaths have reached 10,786.

Kathmandu Valley recorded 793 new cases with 541 cases in Kathmandu, 100 in Bhaktapur and 152 in Lalitpur.
