Torrential rain inundates 385 houses in Valley, 247 rescued

Kathmandu: Incessant rain since last night has inundated 385 households of the Kathmandu Valley. As many as 247 flood survivors were rescued.

According to Spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Office, Ranipokhari and SP Sushi Singh Rathor, the downpour has submerged Kandaghari, Paropokar, Balkhu and Sundarighat of Kathmandu; Manohara, Bodefant and Sukumbasi Basti of Bhaktapur, and Sanepa and Kalopul, among other areas of Lalitpur.

He further informed that 232 workers from Kathmandu and 15 from Lalitpur were rescued. Especially, the settlements near the rivers have been affected by inundation. Police said that no human casualty has occurred so far in the incidents.

Gokarneswor Uttarbahini region waterlogged

The incessant rain has waterlogged the Gokarneswor Mahadev Temple and Uttarganga area located on the banks of Bagmati River. Gokarneswor municipality, ward-4 chairperson Shree Kumar Shrestha told RSS that those coming to offer tribute to their departed ancestors on the occasion of Bhadrakrishna Aunsi have been affected due to inundation.

The area has been waterlogged after the flooded water cross through the stairs constructed by the High-Powered Bagmati Civilization Integrated Development Committee from Gokarneswor Mahadev Temple to Uttarbahini. Monsoon-induced flood has also damaged the road section. The flood has affected different parts to be repaired as part of the Jorpati-Sundarijal road widening project.

Most of the interior roads are waterlogged. Different parts of Bagmati corridor below Gokarna has also been submerged.

Likewise, swollen Rudramati has inundated some houses in Ratopul Maitidevi area. The incessant rainfall from Sunday night to Monday morning has affected most of the places of the Kathmandu Valley.
