Kathmandu: Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Fatema Z. Sumar and Deputy Vice President Jonathan Brooks arrived in Kathmandu on a four-day visit on Thursday.
While in Nepal, the delegation led by Vice President Sumar is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Finance Minister Janardan Sharma and Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Pampha Bhusal.
The visit is viewed with interest and importance as the bilateral agreement on the Millennium Challenge Compact was signed between the Nepal and the MCC signed four years ago has failed to make significant progress.
The Rs 50 billion assistance from the United States as a grant will be used to improve road infrastructure, power transmission line construction and other physical infrastructure development projects in Nepal.
The project, which has an agreement with the common goal of promoting Nepal’s economic development and poverty alleviation, includes the construction of a 318-kilometer-long transmission line with a capacity of 400 kilovolts and three high-capacity substations.
