Kathmandu: Following frequent House obstruction by the main opposition CPN-UML, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has called for an all-party meeting for Monday.

Speaker Sapkota has called for the all-party meeting at 2:30 PM on Monday, informed Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand. The meeting is aimed at forming a consensus to proceed with the regular business of the House.

The main opposition CPN-UML has been obstructing the house since the parliament session began on Wednesday.

The House Sessions were obstructed twice on Sunday. The first session was adjourned by the Speaker after lawmakers belonging to the CPN-UML chanted slogans to obstruct the session. The second session was also obstructed by CPN-UML lawmakers.

After continuous House obstruction, Speaker Sapkota held a meeting with CPN-UML lawmakers but couldn’t reach a conclusion.

The main opposition has been protesting against Sapkota’s refusal to expel 14 lawmakers formerly from the CPN-UML who went on to join a new party chaired by Madhav Kumar Nepal. The Speaker has defended his move saying that the case is now at the Supreme Court and he would respect the court’s decision on the matter.

Following the continued obstruction, the Speaker has postponed the House meeting for Tuesday.
