SAFF Championship: Nepal beats defending champion Maldives

Kathmandu: A goal from Manish Dangi in the 86th minute of the game helped Nepal win against the defending champion Maldives in the SAFF Championship on Friday.

Despite the hosts dominating the ball possession, a counter attacking goal from Dangi, who came in the field as a substitute of Nawayug Shrestha in 69th minute, helped Nepal gain crucial three points.

In the last edition of the championship, Nepal had lost the semifinal match against the Maldives by 3-0.

Likewise, in the opening game of the championship played earlier, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka by 1-0.

Nepal is playing its second match against Sri Lanka on Monday.
