Nepal reports two cases of Omicron variant

Kathmandu: Nepal has reported the first two cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Holding a press meet on Monday, the Ministry of Health and Population said that the variant has been confirmed in two people.

The Omicron variant which was first detected in South Africa is spreading in different countries of the world.

The government on Friday had imposed a ban on the arrival of people from nine countries including that African continent which recorded the cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus.

The Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) was first detected in African countries some days ago and has been expanding rapidly across South Africa and Asia lately. The WHO has declared the new variant as the ‘universal variant of concern’.
