Three burnt to death in Sarlahi fire

Kathmandu: At least three persons died due to a fire burn in Sarlahi.

The fire that broke out from a hut after a short circuit at 9:15 pm took the lives of eight-year-old Laxmi Mahara and three-year-old Sugandhi Mahara. Both are the daughters of Jogi Mahara, a local of Kawilasi Municipality-7, Sirsiraya in Sarlahi.

Critically injured children died on the way to Kathmandu for further treatment after first aid at Malangawa-based district hospital, police shared.

Both the children had 60 to 70 percent of their bodies burnt in the fire. The incident took place when the minors were asleep on the straw bed to avoid the bone-chilling cold.

Jogi Mahara and his five-year daughter Sudha also sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The fire has destroyed all the goods kept inside the house.

Likewise, an elderly died in a fire incident that took place at Malangawa-6, Khutana in Sarlahi.

Nasir Khan, 70, who was sustained critical burn injuries, died while undergoing treatment at Malangawa-based district hospital last night, DSP Madhab Prasad Budhathoki informed.

The fire caught him while keeping his body warm, informed the wife of the deceased, Madina Khatun. Fire incidents have increased of late in Sarkahi with the mercury dropping.
