Four found dead in storeroom of Bheri Hospital

Police suspect that the incident might have taken place due to suffocation as they had slept after burning coal in the room.

Kathmandu: In an apparent death from asphyxiation, four people have been found dead in a storeroom of Bheri Hospital in Banke district on Thursday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Dhan Prasad Bhattarai, 23, of Khandachakra Municipality-6 in Kalikot, his 3-month-old son Ipson Bhattarai, mother-in-law Kopila, 55, and Dhan Prasad’s sister Koli Bhattarai, 22.

According to SP Shyam Krishna Adhikari at the District Police Office, Banke, three others have been injured in the incident. Bhattarai’s wife, 3-year-old son and sister are undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital.

Police suspect that they may have died of suffocation as they had burned coal in a closed room to keep themselves warm.

SP Adhikari said that further investigation into the incident was underway.

A team comprising Chief District Officer Surya Bahadur Khatri and SP Adhikari has reached the incident site soon after getting the information about the incident.

Post-mortem report would reveal the reason behind the death, said Khatri.
