Kathmandu: The local administrations in the Kathmandu Valley have decided to impose an odd-even rule for vehicles, under which vehicles with odd number plates are allowed to ply the roads on odd days, and vice versa.

The decision from the local administrations comes after an abrupt rise in Covid-19 in the Kathmandu Valley. The new rule will be effective in all three districts–Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur–of the Kathmandu Valley.

According to local administrations, the odd-even rule has been enforced for both public and private vehicles starting from Saturday.

“The details of the decision will be made public after a while,” said Govinda Rijal, chief district officer of Kathmandu.

On Thursday alone, Nepal reported more than 12,338 Covid-19 cases, with Kathmandu Valley alone reporting 6,981 new cases.
