Senior-most Justice Deepak Kumar Karki becomes acting CJ following the suspension of Rana

Kathmandu: Chief Justice at the Supreme Court Cholendra Shumsher Rana was suspended after three parties lodged a proposal of impeachment motion against him at the Parliament Secretariat.

The chief justice is accused of seeking his share in the cabinet.

As per Article 101 of the Constitution, the chief justice would be suspended following the proposal of the impeachment motion.

After his suspension, senior-most justice Deepak Kumar Karki will be the acting chief justice of the Supreme Court.

A proposal of impeachment motion was filed against Rana at the Parliament Secretariat at 11:10 AM.

As many as 98 lawmakers of the Nepali Congress, Maoist (Centre), and CPN (Unified Socialist) have signed the proposal for the impeachment motion against CJ Rana.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the lawmakers had reached the Parliament Secretariat to meet Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota with the signatures of 98 lawmakers.
