Kathmandu: The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)’s $ 500 million Nepal Compact has been tabled in parliament.

Minister of Information and Communications Gyanendra Bahadur Karki tabled the Compact amid obstruction of House proceedings by main opposition CPN-UML.

The Compact which had been registered in parliament in 2019 by former finance minister Yubaraj Khatiwada was in limbo for three years due to the opposition by Maoist Center and other communist forces.

Speaking in the parliament, Minister Karki appealed to all lawmakers to approve the Compact. He said that with the implementation of the Compact, five million Nepali households will be benefitted.

Soon after Minister Karki tabled the Compact, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota scheduled the next House meeting for February 24.
