Kathmandu: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Monday demanding to quash a provision of a two-day weekend.

Advocates Santosh Bhandari, Ram Bahadur Shahi, Punya Prasad Khatiwada, Trilok Chand, Deepak Khanal, and Tej Kumar Lohi have filed the petition at the apex court arguing the decision to grant a two-day public holiday was imprudent.

The decision will invite complexities in economic, education, and health among other sectors, the writ mentioned.

The two-day public holiday declared by the government came into effect on May 15. The decision of the government is said to be aimed at reducing the consumption of petroleum products in a wake of dwindling foreign exchange reserves.
