Kathmandu: Following an arrest warrant from the court, the Cricket Association of Nepal has suspended Sandeep Lamichhane, captain of the Nepali national cricket team, who has been accused of raping a minor.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the cricketing body of Nepal said the association’s executive committee meeting has decided to suspend Lamichhane.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against Lamichhane.

Now, Police can nab Lamichhane to further investigate the case. However, Lamichhane is currently in St Lousia to play the Carribean Cricket League from Jamaica Tallawahs.

On Tuesday, a 17-year-old filed a rape complaint against Lamichhane at the Gaushala Metropolitan Police Circle. In the complaint, the victim has alleged that Lamicchane raped her multiple times in a hotel in Kathmandu on August 21, a night before Nepali national team travelled to Kenya to play T20Is and one-day series.

According to police, the victim and Lamicchane met on a social media platform named ‘Snapchat’.

Police say it has been collecting evidence from the hotel where the victim and Lamicchane stayed on August 21.
