Kathmandu: Nepal Automobiles’ Association (NASA) has successfully completed its campaign relating to Star Rating for Schools (SR4S)- “A Safe Journey to the School”, an initiative that has significantly enhanced road safety for students at Sanjiwani Higher Secondary School in Dhulikhel, Kavre and Adarsha Saula Yubak Secondary School in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur.

The campaign supported by AIP Foundation, Vietnamfocused on improving the road safety infrastructure around these schools, resulting in a major increase in safety ratings—from an initial 1-star risk level to an impressive 4.5 stars at Sanjiwani Higher Secondary School and 4.2 stars at Shree Adarsha Saula Yubak Secondary School.

Subas Bhattarai, Project Coordinator said that the project implemented a comprehensive set of interventions, including road safety training for more than 938 students, installation of 21 road safety signboards, four zebra crossings, four rumble strips, one speed hump, construction of 84 meters of footpath in Dhulikhel and 132 meters of protective railing on footpath in Lalitpur. Additionally, lane and edge markings were introduced to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian visibility, creating a safer environment for both students and the surrounding community.

NASA Nepal will be advocating for expanded road safety measures and will formally hand over a report to the Bagmati Province authorities, urging the adoption of similar school safety campaigns across the province. This initiative underscores NASA’s dedication to promoting safer school journeys and reducing road traffic risks, contributing to a safer future for students and communities in Nepal.
