Kanchanpur: On Wednesday morning, an adult male elephant was found dead in Parsiya in Ward 4 of Laljhadi Rural Municipality.
The elephant was found on the roadside in a raided crop field near human settlement with both of the tusks intact.
According to locals, wild elephants have been terrorising the surrounding settlements for a couple of months. Human-animal conflict is inevitable and has been going on for ages in this area.
Dinesh Yadav, forest officer of Kunda Sub Division Office, said that there are no visible wounds or injury of any kind on the carcass of the elephant.
“The body was found by locals who informed the authorities. Both the tusks of the elephant, which eliminates the possibility of poaching,” said Yadav.
A team of veterinarians has been called from Veterinary Hospital and Animal Services Expert Centre, Kanchanpur, for the post-mortem of the elephant. The last rites can only be performed after the autopsy report arrives.

According to Kanchanpur District Police, two people were killed in the district in different elephant attacks this year.
