Kathmandu: The Ministry of Health and Population predicts Nepal might witness 11,000 daily coronavirus cases.

Chief of Epidemiology and Division Control Division (EDCD) Dr. Krishna Kharel said that they have projected that 1,600 patients will need oxygen support when the second wave of the pandemic will be at its peak.

Kharel added that around 500 people daily will need Intensive Care Unit support.

The ministry estimates that the infection rate will be higher in Nepal if almost sectors are open as it is now.

“If all areas are open and people flout public health standards, we can estimate 11,000 cases and 500 serious cases a day,” Poudel said, “However, if the order issued by the government is fully implemented, the infection may not reach a high point.”

Poudel said that the number of cases could reach 600,000 by mid-July as a new variant is spreading in Nepal.

Dr. Poudel also urged all to follow the public health standards.
