Covid-19 surge continues as Nepal records 4,897 fresh cases

Kathmandu: Nepal recorded 4,897 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours pushing the total tally to 312,699 (in PCR test) while the death toll reached 3,211 with 17 fatalities.

Registering a steady increase, the active cases have risen to 30,209 as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

Out of total cases, Kathmandu Valley recorded the highest number of 2,047 new infections. Kathmandu recorded 1,464 cases, Lalitpur reported 351 cases whereas 232 new cases were reported from Bhaktapur.

There are 54 individuals in various quarantine facilities across Nepal.

Likewise, 773 people recovered in the last 24 hours, taking total recoveries to 279,279.

A total of 14,834 samples have been tested up today with 244,5968 samples being in the last 24 hours

79 fatalities in five days
Nepal recorded 79 deaths in the last five days. The death toll stands at 3,211 as of Wednesday afternoon after 17 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours.

April 24
On April 24, of the 7,525 PCR and 1,143 antigen tests 2,619 tested positive and 14 people died.

April 25
On the following day, Nepal recorded the highest number of positive cases after the government lifted all the restrictions. A total of 3,122 new cases were added to the tally after 9,292 PCR and 786 antigen tests. The day witnessed 28 deaths.

April 26
On April 26, out of 12,400 PCR and 893 antigen tests 3,442 tested positive, and two deaths were recorded.

April 27
On April 27, Nepal recorded 4,524 cases in the last 24 hours. Health Ministry said that 15,681 samples were tested during the period. Nepal recorded 18 fatalities.

April 28
