Kathmandu: Fresh MBBS graduates of KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital, posted to the Covid-19 wards, have decided not to perform duties.
However, they are willing to continue their posting in other wards as per the schedule set by the hospital administration.
Writing a letter to the hospital administration, they said that there are several reasons behind refusing to continue working at Covid-19 wards.
“We would like to inform hospital administration that we have been facing a lot of mental disturbances,” they said in the letter.
“Our families are pressurizing us not to continue working at the Covid-19 ward as we won’t be able to manage treatment if we get infected. As some of us live with our families sharing a space, there is an increased risk to them,” the letter reads.

Likewise, the students have also expressed concerns that the government is not taking responsibility for treatment of Covid-19 positive doctors and support their family members.
“We personally feel that we are not confident or qualified enough to deal with the Covid-19 cases as we are not even trained for these situations,” adds the letter.
