Home Minister Thapa, Devkota file candidacies for National Assembly by-election

Kathmandu: Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa alias Badal and Khimlal Devkota on Friday filed their candidacies for the National Assembly by-election slated for May 20.

Home Minister Thapa reached Hetauda through a chopper and filed his candidacy, said Press Coordinator to Minister Thapa, Kiran Bhattarai. Minister Thapa was proposed by Bagmati Chief Minister Dormani Poudel and seconded by Social Development Minister Saraswati Basnet.

Earlier today, a meeting of CPN-UML had decided to field Home Minister Thapa as the party’s candidate for the by-election for the ‘others’ category of the upper house.

Home Minister Thapa discussed with top leaders of the party, including Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, in Baluwatar before leaving for Hetauda.

Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the ruling party, Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center), and Janata Samajwadi Party have fielded Khimlal Devkota as their candidate. Devkota, too, registered his candidacy today as per the election schedule. He was proposed by CPN (Maoist Center) province assembly member Shalikram Jamarkattel and seconded by NC province assembly member Radha Ghale.
