Nepal records 8,850 new Covid-19 cases; active cases increase by over 34,000 in one week

Kathmandu: Nepal on Sunday recorded 8,850 fresh coronavirus cases. Active cases have crossed 88,000-mark with Covid-19 surging across the country despite restraining orders clamped.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 8,777 were diagnosed with the virus in PCR tests while 73 were confirmed positive in the test undertaken through the antigen method.

Samples of 18,787 people were tested through the PCR method while 506 were tested adopting the antigen method.

With this, the number of active cases of coronavirus across the country has reached 88,160.

According to the ministry, 88* people had lost their lives to coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours. As of today, coronavirus-related death has reached 3720.

Likewise, the Kathmandu Valley has recorded 4,198 coronavirus infection-related cases.

Active cases increasing

Active coronavirus cases have been increasing with a rapid surge in cases. Nepal on May 3 had 54,041 active cases which increased to 88,160 on May 9.

Health authorities in Nepal recorded 7,448 new coronavirus cases in the highest single-day spike and 37 fatalities. Covid-19 hotspot Kathmandu Valley recorded 3,666 cases—Bhaktapur registered 222 cases, Lalitpur 522, and Kathmandu 2,922 cases. The country had 54,041 active cases.

May 4

The country recorded 7,660 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours in the highest single-day spike. Out of new cases, a total of 3,893 were from the Kathmandu Valley alone. Of them, altogether 2,779 were in Kathmandu district, 513 in Bhaktapur, and 601 in Lalitpur. The country had 59,798 active cases.

May 5

Nepal registered 8,659 cases of Covid-19 in yet another highest single-day spike as second wave infections rage across the country. Out of new cases, a total of 3,825 were from the Kathmandu Valley alone. Of them, altogether 2,849 were in Kathmandu district, 458 in Bhaktapur, and 518 in Lalitpur. There were 66,352 active cases.

Nepal recorded 9,070 fresh coronavirus cases in yet another highest single-day spike. Likewise, the Kathmandu Valley recorded 3,972 coronavirus infection-related cases. The country had 72,561 active cases.
