Three opposition parties appeal to President Bhandari to call for forming majority government

Kathmandu: Three opposition parties have appealed to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari to make a call for forming a majority government.

Soon after Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli failed to garner the confidence of the House, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Janata Samajwadi Party Chairman Upendra Yadav issued a statement requesting the President to initiate the appointment process of the Prime Minister based on Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.

The joint statement states, “As the confidence motion by the Prime Minister failed, we appeal to the President to initiate the appointment process of the Prime Minister as per Article 76 (2) of the Constitution.”

According to Article, opposition parties have to gain a majority collectively to form an alternative government.
