Oli too stakes a claim for new government

Kathmandu: Prime Minister and Parliamentary Party leader of CPN-UML K P Sharma Oli, too, has staked a claim to lead a new government as per Article 76 (5) of the constitution.

Chief Advisor to PM Oli, Bishnu Rimal, said Oli has the support of 121 lawmakers of UML and 32 lawmakers of the Janata Samajbadi Party.

Earlier, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba reached the President’s Office to stake a claim to lead a new government pursuant to Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

A meeting of the top leaders of the Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), Janata Samajbadi Party, and UML’s Madhav Kumar Nepal faction held at the NC Parliamentary Party’s office in Singha Durbar on Friday collected necessary signatures for the formation of a new government.

According to NC leader Gagan Thapa, a total of 149 signatures have been collected. It is reported that 27 lawmakers from UML’s Nepal faction and 13 from JSP have signed.

President Bhandari on Thursday had called upon the Members of Parliament (MPs) to submit their claim for the premiership till 5:00 pm today to appoint the Prime Minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
