Chief Justice Rana allots 19 writs against House dissolution to his bench

Kathmandu: A single bench of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR on Thursday is hearing 19 writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. CJ Rana assigned the writs to his bench.

After preliminary hearing, the bench can issue a stay order or show-cause notice or forward the writs to the Constitutional Bench.

A total of 30 writs have been filed at the apex court against House dissolution. A Constitutional Bench will hear the remaining writs on Friday.

Legal practitioners and opposition alliance had moved the court after President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, in the wee hours of Saturday, dissolved the House of Representatives and announced mid-term elections to be held in two phases.
