Kathmandu: Sudurpaschim Province Chief Minister Trilochan Bhatta is taking a vote of confidence on Tuesday after UML withdrew support to the government.

Although UML has officially withdrawn support to the government, the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the party is still supporting the Chief Minister.

A meeting of the UML Standing Committee held on June 24 had decided to withdraw its support to the government. Chief Minister Bhatta needs to take a vote of confidence within 30 days after withdrawal of the support as per the constitutional provision.

CM Bhatta needs to secure 27 votes to get confidence in the provincial assembly. It is likely that Bhatta will pass the floor test with the support from lawmakers of the Nepal faction. A total of 18 lawmakers out of 25 UML lawmakers are from the Nepal faction. CPN (Maoist Center) has 13 lawmakers.
