Gandaki Province Chief Minister Pokharel secures vote of confidence

Kathmandu: Gandaki Province Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel secured vote of confidence in Province Assembly on Friday.

The motion tabled by CM Pokharel received 31 votes. A total of 27 UML lawmakers cast vote against him. A total of 58 Province Assembly members were present today.

Pokharel was appointed Gandaki Province Chief Minister on Saturday pursuant to Article 168(5) of the Constitution. Pokharel needed to get confidence of the Province Assembly within 30 days as per the constitutional provision.

Pokharel had staked a claim for the Chief Minister’s post before the Province Chief on Friday. He had presented signatures of 31 lawmakers including 15 from NC, 11 from CPN (Maoist Center), two each from Rastriya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, and one independent lawmaker Deepak Manange.
