Kathmandu: The Supreme Court on Friday has issued an interim order against the government’s decision to export sand, stones, and pebbles from Chure region.

Hearing on a writ petition, a divisional bench comprising Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana, Justices Deepak Karki, Meera Khadka, Hari Krishna Karki, and Bishwombhar Prasad Shrestha issued the order today.

Seven lawyers, including senior lawyer Dinesh Tripathi, had issued the writ petition seeking interim order to prevent the excavation of natural resources from Chure region.

The petitioners had challenged the government’s recent announcement to export the construction materials to slash the growing trade deficit of the country as well as the legality of the budget presented for the fiscal year 2021/22 via ordinance.
