Kathmandu: The State of Qatar has underlined its firm support for the international and the United Nations’ efforts to reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis, in accordance with Geneva I Communique 2012 and relevant Security Council resolutions, looking forward to continuous cooperation to end the Syrian crisis.
Addressing the ministerial meeting on Syria which was held in Rome Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said that the time has come to act in a different way after more than 10 years of human tragedies and suffering for the brotherly Syrian people; and to discuss opportunities and initiatives that can help settle the Syrian crisis in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254.
He praised the efforts exerted by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and his Special Envoy for Syria to support the political track and reach a political settlement to the Syrian crisis, stressing the need for setting a specific date for completing the drafting of a new Syrian constitution and holding elections in accordance with the new constitution.
Al-Thani noted that easing the intensity of the fighting, reaching a permanent ceasefire, and fighting terrorism, in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to all areas in Syria, would contribute to creating the atmosphere for the political process and reaching a solution to end the suffering of the Syrian people.
