Tokyo Olympics: Nepal’s Sonia defeated by Russian athlete

Kathmandu: Sonia Bhatta of Nepal lost to her Russian opponent in the 32nd summer Olympics underway in Tokyo, Japan.

In the match held under round 32 earlier today in the women’s 48 kg category, Sonia was defeated by Erina Dolgova of Russia. Sonia was defeated on the basis of an ippon score, after a bout of 1 minute 16 seconds.

A wild card entry into the Olympics, Sonia stands in the 127th position in the World Judo rankings. Dolgova is in the 9th position. Earlier today, Kalpana Pariyar also faced a defeat in 10-meter air rifle shooting competition.

Gaurika Singh and Alex Shah in swimming and Saraswati Chaudhary in athletics are others competing in the Olympics from Nepal.
