Patan High Court upholds verdict to acquit ex-Speaker Mahara

Kathmandu: The Patan High Court on Tuesday acquitted former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara in an attempt to rape case. A joint bench of Judges Madhav Prasad Pokharel and Bimal Subedi delivered the verdict.

According to Registrar Gajendra Bahadur Singh, the high court upheld the verdict delivered on February 17 by Kathmandu District Court to acquit Mahara.

The then Speaker Mahara was accused of attempting to rape an employee working at Parliament Secretariat. The District Attorney Office, Kathmandu had filed a rape case at Kathmandu District Court against Mahara demanding seven and a half years imprisonment.

The government attorney office had moved to high court following the acquittal.
