Poudel resigns as Parliamentary Party leader, Shakya to become Bagmati Chief Minister

Kathmandu: A fresh development has been witnessed in Bagmati Province with CPN-UML heading for a split. Chief Minister Dormani Poudel has resigned from the post of UML Parliamentary Party leader and Astalaxmi Shakya has been elected to the post.

During a meeting held in Hetauda, Poudel resigned from the post and Shakya was elected as the Parliamentary Party leader, UML Province Assembly member Rachana Khadka told Nepal Live Today. Shakya will now become the Chief Minister of Bagmati.

Earlier, Shakya was close to the Madhav Nepal faction. However, she had said that she would not be involved in dividing the party while the Nepal faction was preparing to register a new party.
