Kathmandu: The CPN-UML has formally split with the Madhav Kumar Nepal faction filing an application before the Election Commission to register a new party CPN-UML (Samajbadi). The leaders reached the Election Commission to register the new party on Wednesday.

Earlier today, President Bidya Devi Bhandari issued an ordinance to amend the Political Parties Act that paved the way for the Nepal faction to register a new party.
