Kathmandu: A meeting of the House of the Representatives on Monday endorsed the annual budget for the fiscal year 2021/22 amid obstruction from CPN-UML.

The UML lawmakers had left their seats immediately after the start of the meeting and picketed the bell. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota continued the meeting despite the obstruction. The main opposition has been obstructing the meeting of the Federal Parliament since September 8 demanding to dismiss 14 lawmakers it took action.

The government on September 10 had tabled a bill to replace the budget ordinance by suspending some rule of the House of Representatives.

Nepal had faced a budget holiday for the first time in history since Wednesday after the ordinance that was brought by the erstwhile government on July 18 got defunct. With the failure, the government was not authorized to spend from the state coffers. The endorsement of the budget bill has paved the way for the government to start spending.
