Kathmandu: Nepali Men’s Football Team Head Coach Abdullah Almutairi has decided to extend his contract with the All Nepal Football Association for three years.

“After meetings with ANFA President Karma Tshering Sherpa and Qatar Football Association officials, I have decided to sign a new contract for three years to continue my job,” said Almutairi in a Facebook post. “Thanks to Qatar Football Association for supporting and doing everything to get me back to Nepal.”

We will publish our targets and plans for the next two years soon and my promise to you is that the future of Nepali football will be better but give us time only, he added.

During the SAFF Championship held in the Maldives earlier this month, Almutairi had announced that he would no longer be associated with the Nepal Football Team. Almutairi had joined the Nepali team in March 2021. He had guided Nepal to the final of the SAFF Championship for the first time in 28 years.

Although Almutari has announced to renew his contract, he had announced, after the match with Bangladesh in the SAFF Championship, that he would never come to Nepal again.

“The final against India will be my last match as Nepal coach. I will never come back to Nepal,” he had said. Prior to that, he had already announced to step down as the head coach twice through his Facebook.
