Kathmandu: October and November are paddy harvest season in Nepal. Paddy that is usually transplanted in June contributes around seven percent to the Gross Domestic Product and is the key source of income for farmers in Nepal.
The recent unseasonal rainfall damaged rice crops worth Rs 7 billion throughout the country. Rain and floods destroyed 258 thousand 92 metric tonnes of rice cultivated on about 68,000 hectares of land. The highest damage is reported in Bardiya, Kapilbastu, Banke, and Rupandehi districts of Lumbini Province.
