Kathmandu: A full court, a meeting of all Justices of the Supreme Court (SC), on Thursday decided to assign cases for hearing through a lottery.
A total of 19 agitating Justices demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana attended the meeting that was not snubbed by the Chief Justice.
The meeting decided to assign a hearing through a lottery and forwarded the decision to the Chief Justice. The decision will be forwarded to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for publication in Nepal Gazette after it is approved by the Chief Justice. The agitating Justices will return to benches after it is published in Nepal Gazette, they said.
Hearing at the apex court has remained disturbed since the afternoon of October 24 as Justices had refused to be its part over the allegations that the CJ sought his share in the expansion of the Council of the Ministers.
The CJ has said he is competent to perform his duties, roles and responsibilities given by the Constitution and the law, and has also urged judges to fulfill given responsibilities. On Monday, he, through a press statement, called on the agitating side for the dialogue and pledged to implement the reports, including that submitted by Justice Hari Krishna Karki, related to reforms in the Supreme Court. The report had suggested assigning cases for hearing through a lottery.
The disruption in the hearing has caused inconveniences to service-seekers.
