Kathmandu: Scores of legal practitioners were injured in a scuffle with security personnel at the premises of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday.

The scuffle ensued when the law enforcement agency tried to stop lawyers heading toward the Office of Attorney General in a bid to stop Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to enter the apex court. Legal practitioners including Chairman of the Nepal Bar Association Chandeshwor Shrestha and Secretary of the Supreme Bar Association Rishi Ram Ghimire were injured in the incident.

Legal practitioners have been staging a sit-in at the main entrance of the SC for a few days while the Chief Justice has been entering the court through an alternative route.

Lawyers associated with the NBA, the umbrella organization of legal practitioners, have been protesting for more than two weeks demanding the resignation of the Chief Justice.
