Kathmandu: The benches at the Supreme Court would be assigned to conduct hearings on the cases through the lottery system from December 1. A full court meeting of Justices at the apex court today took a decision to this effect.

The apex court Justices and the Nepal Bar Association have been demanding assignments for a hearing through a lottery system.

The Supreme Court Justices have been refusing to conduct the hearing since October 24, calling for Chief Justice Rana’s resignation after allegations that he sought a share in the expansion of the Council of Ministers and this has raised a question on the dignity of the judiciary.

A report submitted by Justice Hari Krishna Karki related to reforms in the Supreme Court had suggested assigning cases for hearing through a lottery. A full court, a meeting of all Justices of the apex court, on November 18 had decided to assign cases for hearing through a lottery.
