UML’s National Congress: 18 candidates in the election fray

Senior Vice-Chairman, General Secretary and Joint General Secretaries elected unopposed.

Kathmandu: Elections will be held for 14 posts in the ongoing tenth National Congress of the CPN-UML. The election process has moved ahead following the filing of candidacies in the closed session underway in Sauraha, Chitwan. A total of 18 candidates are in the election fray.

KP Sharma Oli and Bhim Rawal have registered their candidacies for the Chairman.

Outgoing Deputy General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal, who was not included in Oli’s list, has registered his candidacy for the post of Vice-Chairman. The National Convention will elect six Vice-Chairmen. The names of Yubaraj Gyawali, Astalaxmi Shakya, Surendra Pandey, Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’, Bishnu Poudel, and Subas Nembang were announced on Sunday night.

Similarly, the election will be also held for the post of Secretary. The National Congress will elect seven Secretaries.

Earlier, Oli had picked Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Chhabilal Vishwakarma, Raghubir Mahaseth, Lekhraj Bhatta, Yogesh Bhattarai, Gokarna Bista, and Padma Aryal as Secretaries. The election will be held after Bhim Acharya and Tanka Karki filed their candidacies for the Secretary.

Five office-bearers elected unopposed

The tenth National Congress of CPN-UML has elected Senior Vice-Chairman, General Secretary, and Joint General Secretaries of the party.

Ishwor Pokharel has been elected to the post of senior Vice-Chairman. Shankar Pokharel General Secretary and Pradeep Gyawali, Prithvi Subba Gurung, and Bishnu Rimal have also been elected unopposed after no candidacies were filed. The names were proposed by Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Sunday night.
