Death toll from Baitadi jeep accident reaches five

Kathmandu: The death toll from Baitadi jeep accident rose to five after the demise of Janaki Bhattarai, 40, of Patan municipality-1 while receiving treatment at Patan Primary Health Center.

The Kailapal-bound jeep, Se 1 Ja 888, from Patan Bazaar met with the accident at Sakar Thali in Patan municipality-1 on Monday evening killing four people on the spot, Chief of Area Police Office, Patan, Rajesh Shahi said.

Those dead on the spot include Binod Bhattarai, 13, and Rama Bhattarai, 72, of Patan municipality-1, Sakar, Prem Chunara, 24, and Manisha BK, 20, according to in-charge of Area Police Office, Patan, Rajesh Shahi.

Likewise, five others are injured. Of the injured, the health condition of Om Prakash Bhattarai and Man Dhoj Bhattarai is critical. Both of them are referred to Dadeldhura hospital for further treatment.

According to the police, some 11 people, including the driver were traveling in the jeep. The vehicle fell some 100 meters off the road. Jeep driver, Khemraj Pandey, of Patan-5 Basantapur is absconding.
