Covid-19 update: Nepal registers 968 new cases from 14,971 tests

Kathmandu: Nepal reported 968 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP).

Covid-19 cases have gone up sharply in the past few days. A total of 540 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded on Thursday. Nepal had recorded 435 fresh coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

The new cases have been identified through 14,971 samples tested in laboratories across the country. According to the Health Ministry, 572 samples tested positive through the RT-PCR method, while 396 samples tested positive through the antigen method.

With the addition of new cases, Nepal has 5,741 active Covid-19 cases.

A total of 262 people recovered from the pandemic during the period.

As of Friday, the Covid-19 death toll stands at 11,602 with no additional deaths in the last 24 hours.

Earlier today, Nepal reported 24 new cases of omicron variant of coronavirus. Issuing a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Health and Population said that the variant was confirmed through gene sequencing of samples collected throughout the country.
