Kathmandu: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Friday said the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) should be tabled in the Parliament.

He accused Speaker Agni Sapkota of stopping the tabling of the Compact in an unauthorized manner, adding that Parliament should be allowed to decide on the Compact.

He said, “It is not the right and duty of the Speaker to stop the government from tabling the agreement. Unauthorized work and intervention are being made.”

Calling the MCC a development project, Oli said that an attempt is being made to ‘turn it into a geopolitical conflict.’

He said the issues have been created as the ruling alliance has failed to form a stance on the Compact. Oli accused Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ of sending a letter seeking an extension for MCC endorsement was against diplomatic decorum.
