Kathmandu: The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact will not be tabled in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
During a meeting, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ agreed not to table the compact today.
The leaders agreed to summon a meeting of top leaders of the ruling parties on Thursday.
Prachanda met PM Deuba after a Parliamentary Party meeting of the party decided not to support the endorsement of the MCC in the status quo. The party that had earlier agreed to table the compact today changed its tone. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota who had said that parties are free to decide on the tabling of the Compact on Wednesday reportedly said that consensus among political parties is a must for the tabling of the Compact.
The government was preparing to table the Compat at the Parliament’s meeting slated for today. The meeting of the Lower House has been summoned for 1 pm today. The Compact is not in probable business for today’s meeting.
