Kathmandu: The meeting of the House of Representatives that was scheduled to hold discussions on the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact on Thursday has been postponed.

The meeting has been postponed until 1 pm tomorrow.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota postponed the meeting after Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba sought time with the Speaker to forge an agreement with the main opposition CPN-UML.

Leaders of the ruling alliance are at odds over the parliamentary endorsement of the Compact.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Center) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held a meeting. During the meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Deuba urged Chair Prachanda to extend their support to the Compact, which Prachanda refused.

The USD 500 million Nepal Compact was tabled in Parliament on Sunday
