Kathmandu: At least 14 passengers were killed when a bus heading to Damak, Jhapa from Madi of Sankhuwasabha met with an accident on Thursday morning.
The bus, Ba 4 Kha 735, met with an accident at Madi Municipality-6, Phulung at around 7:15 am today, police said.
Ward Chairman of Madi-6 Dhan Narayan Tamang said that 14 bodies have been recovered so far, adding that the death toll can increase further.
Rescue operation is underway and the injured have been taken to Chainpur Hospital for treatment.
Five people were rescued alive from the accident site. According to the locals, the bus was carrying at least 20 passengers. The bus fell down around 300 meters off the road. Detailed information about the accident is being collected, DSP Subedi informed. Currently, security personnel and locals are engaged in rescue works.
