Kathmandu: The Election Commission will implement the election code of conduct for the local-level elections from Friday.

A commissioner said that although the commission was preparing to enforce the code of conduct from Thursday, it was not possible owing to technical reasons.

The Election Commission had published the election code of conduct in the Gazette on March 17.

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order on one of the points in the code of conduct. The apex court had issued an interim order not to enforce a provision that requires local level representatives to resign before filing nominations in the upcoming local-level elections.

The government will not be able to make decisions including transfers and promotions once the code of conduct is enforced.

The Election Commission had issued a 78-page election code of conduct that requires political parties to make payments for expenses for election campaigns through the banking system among others.
