Non-parliamentarian advocate Govinda Bandi appointed Law Minister

Kathmandu: Non-parliamentarian advocate Govinda Bandi (Govinda Prasad Sharma Koirala) has been appointed Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari appointed Bandi as per Article 78(1) of the Constitution on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Office of President said in a statement on Thursday.

Bandi took an oath of office and secrecy at 2 pm today. He was picked as a minister from CPN (Unified Socialist), one of the partners in the ruling alliance.

As per the Constitution, a non-parliamentarian can be appointed as minister. But he/she should be a member of the Parliament within six months from the date of appointment. If failed, the post of the minister will be terminated.

The Prime Minister assigned the responsibility of the Ministry of Industry to Dilendra Badu who is currently looking after the Law Ministry.
