Election Commission seeks clarification from Shashanka Koirala over his remarks on election spending

Kathmandu: Election Commission has sought a seven-day clarification from Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Shashanka Koirala over his remarks that he spent over Rs 60 million on the election campaign.

During a routine press meet on Monday, EC Spokesperson Shalikgram Sharma Poudel said that the commission’s attention has been drawn to the statement.

Poudel said that records at the Election Commission submitted by Koirala state that he had spent Rs 2.1 million.

During a program, Koirala had said that he had spent Rs 60 million in elections stating that elections expenditures are skyrocketing.

Koirala had vied the House of Representatives elections in 2017 in which the Election Commission had set a ceiling for election expenses at Rs 2.5 million.
