Kathmandu: In the first casualty of the spring season, a Greek climber died on Mt Dhaulagiri in western Nepal on early Tuesday morning.

The climber identified as Antonios Sykaris died at an altitude of 7,400 meters while descending the mountain, the Seven Summit Treks confirmed.

“The climber was exhausted while descending the mountain,” said Mingma Sherpa, chairman of Seven Summit Treks.

Sykaris, along with his guide Dawa Sherpa, had scaled Mt Dhaulagiri standing 8,167 meters tall on Monday.

A rescue chopper has already been mobilized to bring the dead body, said Sherpa.
