Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday stayed the government’s decision to suspend Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari.

After a preliminary hearing on a writ filed against the suspension, a single bench of Justice Hari Phunyal issued an interim order to the government not to implement the decision.

The apex court has summoned both the parties before the court on April 26.

Adhikari had moved the court seeking an order to scrap the government’s decision to form a committee to probe allegations leveled against him. The government had suspended Adhikari reasoning that he failed to accomplish the assigned duty of the central bank.

The Cabinet meeting held on April 7 had decided to investigate the role of Governor Adhikari accusing him of leaking sensitive information about NRB.
