Death toll from Lalitpur oxygen plant explosion hits two

Kathmandu: The death toll from an explosion in an oxygen bolting plant located at Patan Industrial Estate has reached two.

The death toll increased after an Indian national Raj Kumar Mahato, 25, breathed his last while undergoing treatment, according to SP Siddhi Bikram Shah at Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur.

Brij Mohan Mahato, 45, of India had died on the spot in the blast at the Sagarmatha Oxygen Plant in the industrial area on Thursday morning.

Six persons injured in the blast have been discharged after undergoing treatment at Patan Hospital. The injured are Ramesh Adhikari, 43, of Parsa, Durga Puri, 36, Sudip Timilsena, 19, and Ishwor Bajgain, 22, of Lalitpur, Anjana Poudel, 20, of Okhaldhunga and Gangaraj Sharma, 49, of Chandragiri.

According to Lalitpur Chief District Officer Dhan Shyam Upadhyaya, a preliminary investigation suggests the explosion occurred when filling oxygen cylinders.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
